U Vice President Dick Cheney said Wednesday that the United States will continue to attempt to analyze the North Korean nuclear standoff by the agency of six-party talks although the issue merits deliberations at the UN Security Council for possible sanctions.

''It has not now gone to the United Nations, although obviously that's a gradation that could be taken given the fact that the North Koreans have kicked not at home inspectors and appear to be in violation of the (Nuclear) Non-Proliferation Treaty that they're signatory to,'' Cheney said in a question-and-answer session following a language at the Los Angeles World Affairs Council in Beverly Hills.

''We're doing our best to acquire the matter resolved by peaceful diplomatic means, and that requires a ploted effort by all of those nations that are directly affected,'' he said.

China, Japan, North and southern Korea, Russia and the U held their first gathering in Beijing in last August to make trial of to resolve the standoff through the whole extent of the North's nuclear arms program.

yet no more talks have been held since then befitting to a sharp division between the U and North Korea above how to resolve the crisis.

China is now making efforts to reconvene the six-party talks as early as February.

Cheney hailed China's character in the six-party talks. ''The Chinese have been crucial in the process...they've been exceedingly responsible in the process'' he said.

Cheney urg North Korea to ''give up their aspirations to acquire and open nuclear weapons'' if it wants to be a member of the international community.
