Thai Foreign Minister Surakiart Sathirathai met Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi forward Tuesday to seek help in bolstering security along their countries' shared border following a series of deadly attacks throughout the weekend in southern Thailand.

Dispatched as a special legate by Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, Surakiart held half-hour talks with Abdullah onward the latest situation in the southern Thai region.

''Both parties have agreed to continue with their cooperation in whatever possible way to make secure that our two neighboring countries are always free from danger and stable at all time,'' Malaysian Foreign Minister Sy Hamid Albar, who also attended the meeting, said in a pres conference

Surakiart said authorities are still investigating who was behind the attacks.

''We should be able to have the comes soon,'' Surakiart told the same pres conference

Thailand had imposed martial law in three southern provinces Monday after a bomb blast killed pair policemen and injured several others Sunday in Pattani Province.

Thai authorities believed near of the culprits may have fl across the border into Malaysia and among them could have been Malaysian citizens.

However, Malaysian Defense Minister Najib Abdul Razak upon Tuesday cautioned against like accusations that Malaysian militants were involved in the attacks.

''I don't want to speculate. Because we know that the locals there sometimes carry dual citizenship. We are not assured When in Malaysia, they have common name and another in Thailand,'' he told reporters.

He said top military officials from the sum of two units countries met Monday to discuss the possibility of holding joint patrols along the border.

There are 17 army seats straddling the border from Malaysia's northeastern state of Kelantan to Thailand's Narathiwat Province. All have been instructed to increase vigilance.

Despite the attacks, Sy Hamid said Malaysia will not issue a travel advisory against visiting Thailand.

''I think generally the situation in Thailand is subject to control. They are handling the situation well...I don't think we should be above worried by issuing a travel advisory,'' he said.

During the meeting with Abdullah, Surakiart handed him a alphabetic character from Thaksin which included an invitation to visit Thailand.
