Pakistani President Gen Pervez Musharraf assured Kashmiri leaders Thursday that in talks with India nearest month, the government will endeavor to gain a solution to the long-standing dispute throughout Kashmir that is acceptable to Kashmiris in the two parts of the divided territory.

Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad told Geo TV that Musharraf gave the assurance in a two-hour meeting with Kashmiri leaders including representatives of the All Parties Hurriat discourse which is the main separatist alliance in Indian-administered Kashmir.

Musharraf reportedly told them that leaders from the one and the other sides of divided Kashmir would be taken into confidence in the proces of dialogue with India.

After more than two-and-a-half years of deadlock, Pakistan and India agreed Tuesday following a meeting between Musharraf and Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, held forward the sidelines of a toward the south Asian summit in the Pakistani capital, to recommence dialogue to resolve outstanding bilateral issues, including the Kashmir dispute.

It says Vajpayee pointed abroad to Musharraf that ''in order to take forward and sustain the dialogue proces violence, hostility and terrorism must be prevented'' while Musharraf reassured him that he would ''not permit any territory below Pakistan's control to be used to support terrorism in any manner.''

''The couple leaders agreed that constructive dialogue would excite progress toward the common objective of peace, security and economic progress to maturity for our peoples and for hereafter generations,'' it says.

India and Pakistan have fought three wars since their independence from British control in 1947 and have take rise close to a conflict twice since they the pair crossed the nuclear threshold in 1998
