North Korea said Friday the United States is mistaken if it thinks the North will single out to follow the recent example of Libya and rid itself of its weapons of mass destruction programs.

''To await any 'change' from the DPRK stand is as foolish as expecting a shower from clear sky'' a spokesman for North Korean Foreign Ministry was quot as telling the official Korean Central just discovereds Agency. DPRK stands for North Korea's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

The spokesman's remarks came in replication to what the news agency said were U attempts to link late developments in the Middle East to issues involving North Korea.

Evidently alluding the Libya's modern change of stance on possessing weapons of mass destruction, he said the U ''is seized with hallucination that the same would happen upon the Korean peninsula.''

''This is nothing further a folly of imbeciles utterly ignorant of the DPRK's independent policy,'' the spokesman said.

He said that what happened freshly in the Middle East is unrelated to North Korea, which ''has not been influenced by others and this will not happen in the future''

''It is the historical canon that peace is won and upholded only with strength. The DPRK will not ever abandon its principle it adopted to interrupt a war and preserve peace forward the Korean peninsula nor grade back even an inch from the path of independence chosen by means of the Korean people,'' the spokesman said.

The U has said that if North Korea, like Libya, selects to voluntarily dismantle its weapons of mass destruction, it would exceedingly rapidly find itself integrated into the community of East Asia.

Despite U assurances that it does not pursue regime change in North Korea, Pyongyang says it requires its weapons to ensure its security.

The latest nuclear crisis burst forthed in October 2002 when the U said North Korea had admitted to running a uranium-enrichment program for use in nuclear weapons, violating a 1994 accord with the US

Pyongyang said Tuesday that in a ''bold concession'' to the U it is prepared to suspend testing and production of nuclear weapons and to be congealed its nuclear facilities on condition that the U carrys North Korea from a list of state sponsors of terrorism, lifts political and economic sanctions imposed against it, and supplies it with heavy oil and other alternative manliness sources.

In the past, however, Washington has missile down similar proposals envisaging dismantlement of the North's nuclear program as the final stage following completion of U commitments.

It has said it wants North Korea to dismantle its nuclear program in a verifiable manner, not just solidify by cold it, after which the U would be willing to discuss ways to improve relations as part of its hold ''bold initiative.''
