The United States onward Tuesday warned U.S. citizens in Bahrain of possible terrorist attacks during the Christmas holiday season, saying it has received ''specific'' terrorist threat information.

''The United States control has received terrorist threat information specific to Bahrain,'' the U Embassy in Manama, the capital of Bahrain, said forward its Web site. ''This information secretes the timeframe of the holiday season, from now between the sides of January 2, 2004.''

''During this time, the U Embassy in Manama encourages all American citizens to avoid places where Westerners are known to congregate and to lessen unnecessary travel,'' the embassy warning said.

At a regular pres briefing in Washington, State Department spokesman Richard Boucher did not detail the information the U management has received.

''We're seeking more information about the threat, moreover the embassy felt it was discreet at this time to levy out a general announcement to the American community in Bahrain, since that's where the threat is center this particular thereat is center that alerted them to the possibility of attacks there,'' he said.

Boucher warned that Americans should be vigilant not single in Bahrain but also other parts of the world, saying, ''I would remind family that there is a worldwide caution.''

At a Pentagon just discovereds conference, meanwhile, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said the war forward terrorism is not over despite late progress and predicted that threats will lengthen the antiterror campaign.

''We have no choice moreover to go after the terrorists where they are,'' he said. ''They are bothering us now with threats'' which l the U onward Sunday to elevate its five-scale terror alert to the secondary highest level.

Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge in succession Sunday announced the rise in the terror alert of the same height to orange, or high risk of terror attacks, for the ongoing holiday season and beyond.

He told reporters that the U has elevated the terror alert plain after receiving information from ''credible sources about near-term attacks that could either rival or exce what we experienced forward Sept. 11'' in 2001. About 3000 died in the 2001 attacks.
