Depos Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein should be brought to justice in Iraq and given the death penalty if supported from the Iraqi people, Australian Prime Minister John Howard said Monday.

U forces captured Saddam hiding in the cellar of a farmhouse near his hometown of Tikrit in succession Saturday.

''I believe he should be tried in Iraq. I think it should be an expand trial. I think the details of what he did should be intervaled out detail by detail, slaughter at slaughter, death by death, in the way that that the world understands what kind of man he was because there are calm now people who doubted,'' he told the Australian Broadcasting Corp.

The prime minister was told about Saddam's capture by the agency of U.S. President George W Bush and said he was delighted according to the news from his coalition partner.

''There have been accelerated plans for restoring Iraqi sovereignty and I'm abundantly in support of those,'' she said.
