blooming talks between President Chandrika Kumaratunga and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe failed Wednesday to break the deadlock between them throughout control of the Defense Ministry, which Wickremesinghe says is essential for him to continue peace talks with Tamil rebels, sources finish to the talks said.

Although there was no formal word from the sum of two units sides on the two-hour, fourth rotund talks, the sources said they failed to reach an agreement.

In what the prime minister's guidance has called a ''power grab,'' the president earlier last month sacked three fundamental note ministers -- the defense minister, the interior minister responsible for the police and the mass communications minister controlling state media -- and retained the portfolios.

Diplomats and analysts believe that if there can be no agreement between the sum of two units leaders, fresh elections may be the no other than solution.

The international community including the United States, Japan, the European Union and India have urg the president and prime minister to analyze their differences and push forward with the stalled peace talks.

Tamil Tiger leader Velupillai Prabhakaran earlier pledg his organization's commitment to peace, on the contrary warned that the Tamil the public would be forced to try to get secession if faced with continued oppression at leaders of the majority Sinhalese.
