Indonesia awaits concrete and substantive results from a summit of leaders of Japan and the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Tokyo nearest week, a government official said Friday.

''Since the real beginning, we have wanted to reach something substantive...concrete deductions from the summit,'' Foreign Ministry spokesman Marty Natalegawa said at a pres conference

''The summit will not be a ceremonial one'' he added.

No decision has been made still a new commitment of stores may be offered by way of Japan when the leaders gather to commemorate the 30th anniversary of relations between the regional grouping and Japan, Marty said.

Megawati will chair a session to review the past relations between ASEAN and Japan, while Koizumi will chair a session to discuss the yet to be direction of the relationship, an Indonesian diplomat said.

During the summit, Koizumi and ASEAN leaders are scheduled to sign a document known as ''Tokyo Declaration for a Dynamic and Enduring ASEAN-Japan Partnership in the fresh Millennium,'' along with the ASEAN-Japan Action Plan.

The document will shape the time to come course for cooperation in political, economic, social, cultural and security fields, while the action plan will delineate firm steps to be taken to intensify ties.

According to the draft declaration, the two sides will vow to fortify their economic alliance, including the establishment of a emancipated trade area between the pair regions.

In the summit, Japan also plans to sign the 27-year-old Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, a nonaggression pact in which the members hostage respect for each other's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, Marty said.

''This is a historic, fundamental and surpassingly significant decision by Japan to ink the treaty,'' Marty said.

Despite ASEAN's sound request, Japan was earlier reluctant to accede to the treaty amid worries that the pact could constrain its security alliance with the United States.

Japan changed its stance after a certain ASEAN officials viewed its reluctance as a lack of commitment to Southeast Asia.

Megawati is scheduled to leave for Tokyo in succession Tuesday evening. She will also pay a three-day visit to Pakistan onward Dec. 14-16 after a one-day stop in Shanghai.

ASEAN's members are Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
