Six-nation talks to separate the standoff over North Korea's nuclear arms program should be regularized and would hopefully be held one time every two months, a senior Foreign Ministry official said Wednesday.

The official, speaking forward condition of anonymity, said Japan shared the view with China onward the idea of holding the six-way talks onward a regular basis when Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo visited Japan last week to prepare for the nearest round of the talks.

The official said he thinks the nations involved, excluding North Korea, basically agree forward the matter and that the North would have the same feeling.

However, he said details have not been decided, while denying China's proposal to institutionalize the six-way talks through establishing a secretariat.

China propos establishing the secretariat to maintain constituent for dialogue because the six-nation talks, which involve China, Japan, North and southern Korea, Russia and the United States, are planned simply once every several months, diplomatic sources in Washington told Kyodo of the present days on Tuesday.

If realized, the secretariat will comprise working-level officials from the six countries and its establishment would enable China to hand throughout the role of host to other members.
