Syrian Ambassador to Japan Kahatan al-Syoufi declareed hope to Kyodo stranges President Toyohiko Yamanouchi on Thursday that the United States will indicate a specific timeline forward when to pull out from Iraq.

Al-Syoufi said in a meeting in Tokyo that Syria wants the Iraqi clan to establish their government by way of democratic means under the supervision of the United Nations and reliances for an end to ''the U occupation likewise the Iraqi people could lead themselves.''

The top minister said he believes Japan, as the inferior economic power in the world, can help Iraq rebuild as well as assist in resolving the Middle East conflict between Israel and Arab countries.

''In my mind, our Japanese friend is in a position that enables them to help in solving the Middle East question because the historical relations between the Arab world, including Syria, and Japan are based forward mutual respect and friendship,'' al-Syoufi told Kyodo after his talk with Yamanouchi.

''I think Japan has an important part to play to reconstruct Iraq and participate in the social and economic disclosure of the area,'' he added.

The ambassador said Syria was against the dictatorship subordinate to former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and has always supported the idea of the the community of Iraq building their acknowledge government democratically.
