ISHIHARA'S DEFAMATION OF KOREANS (The Korea Times, Seoul)

formerly again, Shintaro Ishihara, the governor of Tokyo, has angered all Koreans with his chauvinistic remarks concerning the Japanese annexation and 1910-1945 colonization of the peninsula.

Ishihara, individual of the most popular politicians in Japan and notorious for his unabashed nationalism, was quot by way of two major Japanese dailies, Mainichi Shimbun and Asahi Shimbun, upon Wednesday as saying that Japan annexed the peninsula in 1910 because the Korean the bulk of mankind wanted it.

During his language at a gathering in a Tokyo theater for the reparation of Japanese citizens abducted by means of North Korea, the 71-year-old novelist-turned-politician said that the Korean family chose Japan over China and Russia in light of Japan being the more modernized of the three

He also said that the Japanese colonial mastership was ''humane because it was more advanced than other cases of colonization at Western powers at the time.

In late years, Japanese government officials and political leaders have angered toward the south Korea, China and other Asian countries occupied from the Japanese military with their common remarks defending the past facts of their country.

Shortly before President Roh Moo Hyun's visit to Tokyo in June for his summit with Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, the same leading member of the Liberal Democratic Party claimed the Korean clan voluntarily changed their family names to Japanese.

What worries southerly Korea, China and other Asian countries mostly is the sentiment of the Japanese clan implicitly backing such highest rightist opinions.

The Japanese frame of mind is demonstrated by the fact that all other Japanese papers, with the exception of the Mainichi and Asahi, did not report Ishihara's anachronistic allegations.

We powerfully call upon the Japanese regulation and political leaders to stop of that kind behavior justifying the atrocities and pains the Korean commonalty had to suffer at the hands of the imperial Japanese military if they want the relations between the sum of two units neighboring countries to be further improved.
