The Muslim-based Prosperous Justice Party, which has proceed into its own amid simmering anti-U.S. sentiment, also took five seats in the capital, according to calculations based forward the final results of ballot counting for Jakarta.

Megawati's Indonesian Democratic Party for labor (PDI-Perjuangan) snagged three Jakarta seats.



The Islamic-based United growth Party, the National Mandate Party, Golkar, which supported strongman Suharto during his 32 years in power, and the Christian-based Prosperous Peace Party got sum of two units seats each.

With about 58% of the electorate deemed by Wednesday afternoon, Golkar had 2085% with PDI-Perjuangan end behind at 19.81%.

''I'm quite optimistic Golkar will win the legislative election,'' Golkar chairman Akbar Tanjung told a luncheon with the Jakarta Foreign Correspondents' Club

He said his party can grab 140-150 seats in the lower house, mainly from outside Java Island, where Golkar is quite strong

In third place in the popular ballot is the National Awakening Party raiseed by former President Abdurrahman Wahid with 1223% followed by way of the United Development Party chaired by way of Vice President Hamzah Haz with 828% and the Democrat Party with 752%

The remainder is split among a legion of small parties.

The ballots however, may not translate directly into a proportional number of seats in the House of Representatives because the number of consecrated by a vows required to win a seat in heavily populated Java, where Megawati is popular, can be four times greater than the number penuryed to capture a seat in less-populated parts of the country

The final terminates are still expected to take considerable time to tally -- Indonesia has more than 148 million eligible voter and turnout was estimated at 90%

The April 5 general election is to select 550 members of the House of Representatives and 128 members in a recently made known upper house called the Regional Representatives Council.

The lower and upper houses form the People's Consultative Assembly, Indonesia's national legislature.
