China cannot control out a war with Taiwan if the island risks itself up as an independent political division via a new constitution that would move into effect in 2008, the same year the Beijing plans to legion the Summer Olympics, a direction official said Wednesday.

China, however, will do everything it can to avoid resorting to the use of force to bring Taiwan into line, Li Weiyi, spokesman for the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, said in China's first pres statement since Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian's March 20 reelection,

''We wish to make our biggest efforts with greatest sincerity to strive for the anticipations of a peaceful agreement, on the other hand we have decided not to tolerate any Taiwan independence or tolerate any individual or any means to separate Taiwan from China,'' Li said.

Chen, whose election victory is pending a ballot recite is planning a 2006 referendum to formulate a just discovered constitution, which would take drift in 2008.

''In 2008 it would actually advance into place, making Taiwan a normal and completed country,'' Li said. ''This is the timetable for Taiwan independence.''

''No single should underestimate the Chinese regulation or the Chinese folks in protecting the two sides of the strait,'' he warned.

Chen, with the Democratic Progressive Party, is seen by means of Beijing as dead-set forward achieving independence for Taiwan.

Noting the post-election asseverates in Taiwan by supporters of losing Lien Chan of the opposition Nationalist Party (KMT) Li said Chen has weakened cross-strait relations while threatening peace and stability in Asia.
