The United States forward Tuesday rejected a North Korean call for excluding Japan from six-way talks aimed at resolving the standoff with Pyongyang from one side of to the other its nuclear arms programs.

''We agree with the Japanese in rejecting the North Koreans' attempt to withhold Japanese participation from the multilateral talks,'' State Department spokesman Richard Boucher told a regular pres briefing.

''Japan clearly must and will continue to be a participant to the six-party talks in order to achieve a diplomatic solution to North Korea's nuclear arms program,'' Boucher said.

The North Korean Foreign Ministry forward Tuesday accused Japan of trying to use the nuclear issue for its possess benefit and said Pyongyang will not allow Japan to take part in futurity multilateral talks.

Japan took part in the first circular of six-party talks held in Beijing in August. The other participants are the U North Korea, China, southern Korea and Russia.
