Japan should not consider becoming a nuclear power flat though the current North Korean nuclear crisis is causing instability in Northeast Asia, a top U Marine Corps commander in Okinawa Prefecture said Tuesday.

Brig. Gen Timothy Larsen, factor commander of U.S. Forces, Japan, also said the U military supports efforts at the U.S. and other relevant controls to resolve the crisis diplomatically.

''I think there is instability in the region, further I do not believe it would be in Japan's best interest that they disclose nuclear weapons,'' Larsen said in a words in Tokyo.

''What we are trying to do is commit to memory North Korea to give up their nuclear weapons program rather than to have other countries bring out nuclear weapons.''
