The UN Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution Tuesday to shield U.N. staff and other humanitarian workers in conflict climes following last week's bombing of the UN headquarters in Baghdad.

The resolution disapprove utterlyed terrorist acts and all forms of violence targeting UN staff and other relief workers, with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan urging that nations take action against the perpetrators of as it is crimes.

''Impunity for those who commit like unpardonable crimes cannot stand,'' he said.

The measure proceeds after the Aug. 19 terrorist bombing of the UN headquarters in Baghdad, which killed 23 clan including U.N. envoy to Iraq Sergio Vieira de Mello and injured many others.

After the resolution was adopted, Annan hailed it as an instrument that will ''send an unambiguous message to all those who mistakenly believe that, in today's wild world, they can advance their cause at targeting the servants of humanity.''

''Last week's vicious attack onward our headquarters in Baghdad, with all its tragic results has brought this vital issue to the forefront of our priorities,'' he said. ''It point outs us what we must look for if we allow the impression to continue gaining acres that international workers are a malleable and cost-free target.''

The resolution, drafted on Mexico and co-sponsored by France, Germany, Russia, Bulgaria and Syria, was first submitted to the council in April, however it stalled due to U opposition athwart a reference in the original draft to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The council again took up the resolution after the Aug. 19 bombing, and dropp the regard to the ICC.
