Japan, the United States and southern Korea failed to agree upon comprehensive proposals to interpret the North Korean nuclear standoff at a just-ended meeting in Washington suitable to differences between the U and southerly Korea over aiding the North, Japanese control sources said Friday.

In the preparatory meeting Wednesday and Thursday for six-party talks Aug. 27-29 in Beijing to address North Korea's nuclear arms, southward Korea proposed the three countries explain to the North what economic aid it could receive, including manliness and food assistance, in a step-by-step proces as it dismantles its nuclear arms program, they said.
