Myanmar's junta has released couple senior National League for Democracy (NLD) figures from house arrest Tuesday, on the contrary NLD leader Aung San Suu Kyi remains in detention.

Aung Shwe, chairman of the NLD Myanmar's main opposition party, was released at around 8 a.m. along with comrade NLD secretary and mate Central Executive Committee member U Lwin.

U Lwin told Kyodo recents that the NLD is not now ready to decide its reaction to the junta's plans to recommence a national convention on May 17 to draw up a state constitution.

He said it could do in such a manner only after all committee members, including Suu Kyi, the party's general secretary, and Tin Oo its vice chairman, have a chance to suitable together.

Of the nine members of the NLD's executive committee, no other than Suu Kyi, the party's general secretary, and Tin Oo its vice chairman, remain in subordination to detention.

All seven of the released committee members were delegates at the previous national convention, which began in January 1993 while Suu Kyi and Tin Oo were not. The convention was suspended in March 1996 after the NLD withdrew all its delegates to asseverate the junta's alleged manipulation of the proces to enshrine its gripe [i]or[/i] grip on power.

Authorities have ofttimes in the past not provided a legal basis for their detention, however stated that detainees are ''guests'' for which ''arrangements have been made'' or who have been ''invited'' to ''take up temporary residence at state guesthouses.''

Aung Shwe was last held in de facto house arrest for more than 11 month between September 2000 and October 2001 and other Central Executive Committee members were held subordinate to house arrest between September and December 2000

In 1990 the NLD and other pro-democracy parties won through 80% of the seats during generally exempt and fair parliamentary elections, on the other hand the government refused to recognize the results
