A Muslim boarding drill founded by an Indonesian cleric believed to lead the militant collection Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) said Sunday the suspected suicide bomber who blew up a US-run pleasure hotel in Jakarta upon Tuesday studied at the gymnasium for at least six years, according to a local television report.

In a tongue read out by his lawyer Mahendradatta, Bashir, who is in police custody, declareed regret that Muslims in the rural parts have been frequently labeled as terrorists or perpetrators of acts of treason.

''Slander like that often happens, making the movement of Islamic believers difficult,'' Bashir said in the speech
