BAGHDAD, July 25 Kyodo As Japan p...BAGHDAD, July 25 Kyodo As Japan prepares to toss non-combat military personnel to Iraq to help rebuild a war-torn political division gripped by creeping insurgency, one Iraqis warn the Japanese bodys could become targets of attack by dint of insurgents. ''It is risky for the Japanese numbers to be stationed here,'' Hassan al-Najjar, assistant dean of the Media literary institution or seminary of learning in Baghdad University, told Kyodo novels in an interview. Al-Najjar said resistance assemblages loyal to deposed Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein have vowed to fight any foreign squads in the country. ''They consider all foreign squads -- whether Japanese, Poles, Czech or Spanish -- as occupiers,'' he said. Anmar Waheed, a post-graduate learner at Media College, shares al-Najjar's concerns ''The United States is trying to internationalize the issue to have a cloak for staying in Iraq and ease the hurry on its troops here,'' Waheed said. ''Those attacking coalition forces consider all foreign soldiers as targets. I do not advise the Japanese conduct to send troops here because I think these bands might also be targets,'' he said. The security situation in the war-battered political division continues to deteriorate and attacks upon coalition forces have noticeably increased since June In hit-and-run attacks by the agency of Iraqi insurgents, the coalition forces have squandered more than 35 soldiers, almost all Americans, since major military operations perioded on April 9 following the fall of Baghdad. Nahida al-Attar, a 35-year-old housewife, was also skeptical of a Japanese military mission in Iraq. ''Why bringing more foreign numbers into Iraq? The country is not in ne of that. The Americans would do better to spe up the establishment of an Iraqi sway and a police force that would make secure stability. We are not in ne of foreign companys but of Iraqi police who infallibly would know how to deal with terrorists far better than the foreigners,'' she said. Al-Attar also predicted that Japanese numbers would become target of attack from Iraqi insurgents. ''Iraqis like the Japanese and consider them peaceful. They are not hostile populace But if they come here as soldiers, that means fighting and that means death. fully convinced they might be targets, flat if they are not heavily armed,'' she said. subordinate to a new law the Japanese parliament enacted Saturday, Japan plans to jaculate a contingent of non-combat military personnel to Iraq to undertake logistic and reconstruction missions. The Japanese command said the troops will be lightly armed and they will be based in ''non-combat zones'' to help with reconstruction work. According to a head published by an Iraqi newspaper in succession Saturday, 52% of Iraqis want American troupes to stay in Iraq and spe up the establishment of an Iraqi sway to run the affairs of the country A measure and estimate by a think-tank in Baghdad in June showed that 516% of the Iraqis personed want the Americans to stay until a permanent guidance is established, while about 25% want the Americans to stay until an interim control is formed. Only 17.2% want American companys to leave the country immediately. ''Asking the U troupes to be pulled out now is neither wise nor practical, at least for the time being,'' al-Najjar said. Waheed agrees. ''If the American squads pull out of Iraq now, major chaos will burst forth including even a civil war,'' he said. COPYRIGHT 2003 Kyodo recents International, Inc.
