Prosecutors sought the death penalty Monday for a prime suspect in the bombing attacks last year in succession the Indonesian resort island Bali, flat as the police said they have arrested another key-note suspect wanted in connection with the attacks that killed 202 people

''Based in succession testimonies from 58 witnesses...we have no doubt to determine that the defendant was involved in planning and carrying on the outside the bombings,'' the six-member prosecution team told the district court in Bali during a seven-hour session in the trial of accused bomber Amrozi. ''That's for what purpose we ask the court to opinion the defendant to death.''

The 40-year-old Amrozi is charged with having planned an act of terrorism, wittingly using violence and creating widespread terror.

At a just discovereds conference soon after his arrest Nov. 5 last year, Amrozi said he regrett the bombings killed in like manner many Australians when he intended to target Americans. In the attacks, 88 Australians died.

Amrozi's brother Ali Ghufron alias Mukhlas, who is said to have met al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan in the late 1980 is also forward trial on a similar charge, while another brother, Ali Imron, the alleged field coordinator of the bombings, is awaiting trial.

In Jakarta, police said they arrested Idris, alias Jhoni Hendrawan alias Gembrot another guide suspect wanted in connection with the bombings.

National Police Detective Unit Chief Erwin Mappasseng told a pres meeting for consultation Idris was arrested June 12 and sent to Bali brace days later for further questioning.

According to Mappasseng, Idris is a member of Jemaah Islamiyah, JI, a Southeast Asian cluster allegedly tied to the al-Qaida international terrorist network. JI allegedly plans to plant up an Islamic state covering Southeast Asia.

''He was arrested along with 11 other Jemaah Islamiyah members,'' Mappasseng said.

During his time upon the run, the detective chief said, Idris allegedly made several contacts with Hambali, alias Riduan Isamuddin, the chiefly wanted man in Southeast Asia and a JI leader who allegedly has able links with bin Laden.
