Protester marched in central Tokyo calling for the immediate release of Myanmar's pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi upon Thursday, her 58th birthday.

The demonstration, organized by means of the Japanese branch of the National League for Democracy (NLD) an opposition force l by way of Suu Kyi, started on the outside at 7 p.m. from the entertainment district of Roppongi in Minato Ward and headed toward JR Tokyo Station.

It drew about 100 tribe according to the organizers, predominantly Burmese

Carrying the r flag of the NLD enlarged photographs of Suu Kyi, and banners calling for her release, the marchers walked behind a van cover ined with a huge painted [i]affiche[/i] of Suu Kyi.

An official at the People's Forum forward Burma, a civic group, who declined to be named, said he trusts to convey a message to the Myanmar direction to swiftly release Suu Kyi and to the Japanese guidance to stop giving aid to the junta.



''We want the Foreign Ministry to congeal its official development assistance to Myanmar. In order to in sober earnest promote democracy, the command must adopt a strong stance against a rule that continues to detain a bodily substance who stands for democracy,'' he said.

Thent Zin Oo 43 chairman of the NLD's Japanese branch, said that Burmese race worldwide need to demonstrate and exhibit their desire for democratization of their country

''Demonstrations like this are impossible in Burma because if more than five gather for a political activity, they will arrest and imprison you,'' he said.

Zaw Min, 41 a joint secretary at the NLD's Japan unit, said, ''I have feeling angry at the Myanmar regulation which uses violence to suppres the folks We want a democratic political division but the aid given by way of countries like Japan, China and India is helping the military rule to thrive.''

''We expectancy the money and the aid stop going to the military conduct and is passed onto the NLD'' said U Eithareya, 47 a Buddhist monk visiting Japan from the United States.

Daw May Khaing Oo 47 a university lecturer who was unable to continue her piece of work because of the political activities of her husband, an NLD member, said she wants the world to know that Myanmar's conduct is breaching human rights.

''My husband was forced to drink something that made him partially fail to keep his eyesight. Terrible things are going forward in the country of that kind as allowing the rape of women from minority tribes,'' she said.

Calls are growing internationally for Myanmar to immediately release Suu Kyi and other NLD members, who were placed in ''protective'' custody following clashes between NLD supporters and pro-junta demonstrators in northern Myanmar forward May 30.
