The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) has criticized the storming of its headquarters in Baghdad's Mansoor district by dint of coalition troops, describing the incident as ''oppressive.''

A statement from the party published in its newspaper al-Taakhi upon Wednesday said it was ''surprised to hear the news''

It added that the headquarters ''was render free of accessed with the knowledge, the approval and definition of American forces following a security meeting held earlier in Baghdad.''

The KDP is single in kind of the Iraqi political parties with closest ties to the United States. U numbers have in recent weeks intensified their search for weapons. The top U administrator in Iraq, Paul Bremer has given until Saturday for all unauthorized proprietors of arms to turn in their weapons to the coalition or face a one-year jail tenet or $1,000 fine.

The ban also includes local political parties' militias, still excludes the militias of the one and the other the KDP and its rival Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.
