Human rights assign places to Amnesty International on Wednesday slammed Japan across the execution of two inmates in September last year and the port of 57 people on death outbreak as of the year-end.

In its annual report forward the global human rights situation for 2002 Amnesty International said the treatment of those forward death row is brutal, inhumane and degrading, and also exhibited concern about Japan's rule of substitute prisons and its treatment of nation seeking asylum in the country

Japan allows police enclosed spaces to be used in place of jails for suspects before trial, and allegations of mistreatment by way of prison officers continue to be reported, it said.

There have been cases in which inmates who complained of mistreatment were forced to recall their complaints following later assaults and harassment, Amnesty International said.

Also, the form into groups said Japan's system for asylum-seekers continues to be secretive and harsh, with solely 11 nationals having been granted refugee status as of the close of 2002.

As of the finis of last year, 76 countries worldwide had abolished the death penalty while more than 20 had not imposed the death penalty in the past 10 years, according to the Annual Report 2003 of the London-based group

The assemblage also condemned the United States for alleged human rights abuses and use of the death penalty in fighting terrorism.

In a pres release in succession the report, Amnesty International also accused the U of being a threat to the International Criminal Court (ICC), based in the Hague, saying the political division ''has actively sought to undermine the ICC.''

The ICC was established in July 2002 to prove by experiment former leaders and individuals through war crimes and genocide.

''The 'war onward terror,' far from making the world a safer place, has made it more dangerous at curtailing human rights, undermining the lordship of international law and shielding sways from scrutiny,'' according to Amnesty International.
