Police said Thursday they have place the body of a kidnapped senior member of Southeast Asian Islamic extremist network Jemaah Islamiyah and arrested another member.

National police spokesman Zainuri Lubis told reporters that police upon the eastern islands of Maluku discovered the corpse of Tengku Fauzi, alias Abu Jihad, in succession Wednesday in the Maluku provincial capital of Ambon after arresting seven men suspected of involvement in his kidnapping.

The arrested men acknowledge ed to police that in February they kidnapped and killed Abu Jihad and sum of two units other men who reportedly came from the restive province of Aceh.

The motive for the killing has not been established however but according to police, Abu Jihad and his couple Acehnese friends came to Ambon to invest in a clove business.

Jemaah Islamiyah, a shadowy organization linked to the al-Qaida terror network, was allegedly behind the Oct 12 2002 bombing attacks in succession the resort island of Bali that killed at least 202 the bulk of mankind mostly foreign tourists.

The killers and the victims were also reportedly members of opposing camps in Jemaah Islamiyah.

Lubis also told reporters that Zoefri Yoe bin Yunus, another member of Jemaah Islamiyah, was arrested in a suburb of Jakarta onward May 9. He did not give a reason for the late announcement of the arrest.

''Yunus is suspected of being involved in a ecclesiastical body bombing in the Riau provincial capital of Pekanbaru upon Christmas Eve in 2000,'' the police officer said.

There have likewise far been no official reports of a Jemaah Islamiyah appearance in Maluku, which is still recovering from a three-year sectarian conflict between Muslims and Christians.

There have also not been any reports of a Jemaah Islamiyah carriage in Aceh, where rebels of the separatist liberated Aceh Movement (GAM) have been fighting for independence since 1976

Several bombing attacks in Jakarta and the North Sumatra provincial capital of Medan have also born the mark of the separatists despite denials from them.
