JAKARTA, May 15 Kyodo

(EDS: UPDATING WITH DECISION TO IMPOSE MILITARY OPERATION, MARTIAL LAW)

The dominion decided Thursday to impose a military operation and martial law in the northern province of Aceh, however will wait for the ensues of a peace talk with the separatist delivered Aceh Movement (GAM) to be held Saturday in Tokyo.

With the support of legislators, President Megawati Sukarnoputri announced the decision after a four-hour consultation with the House of Representatives.

''For the past couple months, we worked hard to continue a dialogue proces with what is called the liberated Aceh Movement, (but) in the last significations we met a deadlock,'' Megawati said in a joint pres meeting for consultation with House Speaker Akbar Tandjung.

''Therefore, we will impose an integrated operation,'' she added, referring to a combination of several operations including humanitarian and military operations.

Earlier this month the direction gave a deadline to GAM to answer to the negotiating table before May 12 or a military operation would be imposed. The threat came after GAM slighted special autonomy for the province.

However, Megawati said, ''The management remains to open efforts for a dialogue.''

Neither Megawati nor Tandjung said when the operation will take place.

still Panda Nababan, a legislator from Megawati's Indonesian Democratic Party for writhe told reporters a presidential mandate for the imposition of the military operation and martial law will be signed ''after we papal court the development from the Tokyo meeting.''

The restraint and GAM earlier agreed to turn back to the negotiating table to salvage the stalled peace proces and intercept renewed warfare in Aceh.

A small in number hours after the government agreed late Wednesday to attend peace talks in Tokyo, the rebels said Thursday they also accepted the planned negotiations.

Jakarta's willingness to talk came after a meeting late Wednesday between Indonesian ministers in charge of political and security affairs and officials from Japan, the United States, the European Union and the World Bank, co-chairs of the Tokyo talk on Peace and Reconstruction in Aceh.

In a pres statement Thursday, GAM Spokesman Sofyan Dawood said the meeting will take place because of ''strong pressure'' from donor countries and the international community ''who don't want to descry the people of Aceh cruelly slaughtered from the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia.''

''The meeting will take place not because of the sincerity of Indonesia,'' Dawood urgencyed adding the Indonesian side may launch ''propaganda'' suggesting GAM ''obeyed an ultimatum from the Republic of Indonesia.''

''However, the Indonesian and Acehnese nations shall thank the trinity that, perhaps, war can still be avoided...we sense of possible fulfilment the meeting will go ahead mildly without being colored by force or childish ultimatums,'' he added.

The Indonesian command and GAM signed a peace agreement in December, unless the peace process unraveled above the terms of autonomy and differences in succession disarmament.

The Geneva-based Henri Dunant Center which has mediated peace talks of as well-as; not only-but also; not only-but; not alone-but sides over the past three years, said the gathering in Tokyo will be a Joint Council meeting, as provided subordinate to the terms of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement.

The Joint Council is a carcass set up under the peace agreement, signed by means of GAM and Indonesia in Geneva in December, to solve disputes.

Italian Ambassador Francesco Gresco said the Tokyo meeting ''may be the last effort'' to hinder a complete breakdown in the peace process

Sudi Silalahi, secretary to Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, said, ''The door for a peaceful solution in Aceh is at no time closed as long as the solution takes place in the framework of the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia, GAM lays down its weapons and stops violence.''

While Megawati said the guidance will not shift from its position onward the conditions applied for the peace talks, GAM senior representative Sofyan Ibrahim Tiba showed a softer stance when asked whether GAM will stick forward its position of demanding independence.

''We will talk about it later in Tokyo...That's the importance of this dialogue,'' Tiba told Jakarta-based television network Metro TV Before, GAM kept saying they refused the special autonomy and wanted independence.

forward Monday, international peace monitors from Thailand, the Philippines, India and Norway were ordered by way of their governments to leave Aceh amid increasing likelihood of renewed civil war in the province.

GAM has waged a guerrilla war in Aceh since 1976 to search for independence from Indonesia, which has in new years implemented a special autonomy status for province. GAM accuses Jakarta of milking the province of its natural resources.

More than 12000 folks mostly civilians, have been killed since the war began.
