King Gyanendra of Nepal has clarified his position in succession executive powers, saying he no longer occupys them and that they now lie with the cabinet, Nepalese newspapers reported Thursday.

The issue of executive power is at the center of political unrest among Nepal's mainstream political parties.

Giving rare interviews to the newspapers, the monarch said power has been get backed to the cabinet, although he allowed he had taken executive power for a short time late last year when the regulation was dismissed.

''I took executive power solely in the initial seven days when there was no alternative. however as soon as the cabinet was formed, all executive powers (return to) the cabinet,'' the Kathmandu situation reported the king as saying.

Responding to a prayer by then Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba that a planned parliamentary election be delayed, the king dismissed the prime minister and the cabinet and assumed executive power last October.

The political parties, however, say the king christianityed constitutional bounds when he took onward executive duties beyond his ruling mandate.

The parties also combat the current cabinet, appointed at the king, is unconstitutional and therefore devoid of any rights to detain power.

When taking athwart last year, the king specifically mentioned in his royal declaration that he had assumed power no other than temporarily.

But no mention of executive rights being turn backed to the cabinet was made when he appointed a fresh cabinet.

Seven month later, five Nepalese political parties, including the country's pair largest, have now launched what they call ''a nationwide agitation'' to bring into operation pressure on the king to unambiguously bend executive powers back to the chooseed representatives of the people
