The Nepalese direction and Maoist rebels began peace talks here Sunday aimed at ending the communist insurgency facing the Himalayan kingdom.

Emerging from the first orbicular of negotiations, Krishna Bahadur Mahara, a spokesman for the rebel team, said the talks took place in a profitable and cordial atmosphere.

The negotiations, which are being held at a Kathmandu inn are taking place after a three-month cease-fire.

The rebel team also renewed its commitment to bring the peace talks to a felicitous conclusion, and no hurdles are seen he said.
