Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi plans to ask Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing in a meeting later this week for China to help Japan take up again governmental negotiations with North Korea in succession the issue of Japanese nationals abducted at North Korea decades ago, Foreign Ministry officials said Monday.

Kawaguchi is look forward toed to make the request in the meeting with Li during her trip to China upon Saturday and Sunday.

''It is regrettable that North Korea has not accorded to (Japan's proposal) forward the negotiations,'' a senior ministry official said.

''In the meeting of the foreign ministers, Japan wants to ask China to work toward realizing the Japan-North Korea negotiations as well as launching a preparatory working form into groups for a third round of six-nation talks.''

Li visited North Korea last week and discussed a wide range of issues with North Korean leaders, including the six-nation talks upon Pyongyang's nuclear ambitions.

Japan and North Korea agreed in meetings held in succession the sidelines of the next to the first round of the six-nation talks in Beijing in late February to continue bilateral negotiations. North Korea said it would answer to Japan's request to occupy the next round of full-fledg bilateral governmental talks within appropriate channels.

The islands are known as the Senkaku Islands in Japan and the Diaoyu Islands in China.

Japanese police arrested the seven Chinese activists for landing forward the island before the seven were reverted to China.
