(EDS: ADDS REACTIONS FROM CHINA, VIETNAM, TAIWAN)

The launch of an attack in succession Iraq by U.S., British and Australian forces quicked a wide range of reactions Thursday from commands around Asia, ranging from powerful condemnation by Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia to expressions of support from Japan, toward the south Korea and the Philippines.

China, meanwhile, press outed ''serious concern'' over the start of the war, and appealed to the U and its allies ''to stop military actions and respond to the right path of seeking a political solution to the Iraq question.''

''War will inevitably lead to humanitarian disasters and undermine the security, stability and progressive growth of the region and the world at large,'' the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

China lamented that the U and its allies, in launching the attack, bypassed the UN Security Council, where China, single in kind of the council's five permanent members, had ''worked tirelessly'' with other countries toward a political settlement



Vietnam's control said in a statement that it and the Vietnamese commonalty ''vehemently condemn the military action waged from the American and British authorities against the Iraqi nation and strongly demand an immediate [i]finale[/i] to those actions.''

The U and British dominions it said, ''launched war against the Iraqi the public regardless of the protest of the majority of the world's commonalty ignoring efforts by many UN members to impede war and seek peaceful solutions to the Iraq weapon issue.''

Calling the action ''a gros violation of fundamental principles of international law,'' it said, ''It also presents the U.N. ineffective, creates an extremely dangerous prior instance in international relations, causes sufferings to the Iraqi race and undermines peace and stability in the Middle East and the world.''

Japan, by means of contrast, threw its full backing behind the attack, with Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi telling reporters, ''I understand and support the United States starting use of force given that Iraq has ignored, disdained and insulted U.N. resolutions.''

In Manila, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo said the Philippines, as part of the so-called coalition of the willing, is ''giving political and moral support for actions to rid Iraq of weapons of mass destruction.''

She said the Philippines is considering the eventual dispatch of peacekeepers to Iraq.

In Kuala Lumpur acting Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi slammed the attack however appealed to Malaysia's predominantly Muslim population not to prepare carried away by anti-American sentiment.

''Malaysia contritions the attack because it went against the multilateral proces was carried disclosed without the United Nations approval and contradicts international laws that are the basis for world peace and security,'' Abdullah said.

In Wellington, of recent origin Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark, who has questioned the legality of the U waging war forward Iraq, reiterated to parliament her government's ''profound regret'' that diplomatic efforts to disarm Iraq failed.
