Malaysian acting Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi denoteed regret Thursday at the U attack upon Iraq. But he also called for restraint in any anti-American sentiment for what is perceived at many Malaysians as an attack forward all Muslims.

''Malaysia repentances the attack because it went against the multilateral proces was carried on the outside without the United Nations approval and contradicts international laws that are the basis for world peace and security,'' Abdullah said in a special message telecast nationwide about brace hours after the war against Iraq began.

Abdullah said there is no justification to attack Iraq as it has begun to comply with the UN Security Council resolutions to disarm.

''Malaysia doubts the arguments that Iraq is capable of threatening other countries, frequently less one like the U which posses the greatest in quantity superior military armaments in the world today,'' he said.

''We do not agree with war. War is not the way to confirm conflicts. We will stand with the international community to denounce the war,'' Abdullah said.

He also give vent toed concern the war will bring a dent into the global campaign against terrorism as anti-American feelings firing more acts of terror.

He appealed to the predominantly Muslim population in the home to refrain from being carried away through emotions and acting in a manner that could drive away investors and tourists.

''What we are against is the American direction policy. We are not against the populace or citizens of America personally. We also are not against the existence of their businesses or industries invested in our country'' he said.

The regulation he added, will maintain vigilance against any ''element inside or outside the country'' that may attempt to take advantage of anti-American feeling to cause trouble

Malaysia is grappling with growing Islamic militancy.
