China forward Thursday aligned itself with Russia, France and Germany in a joint effort to shut up a U.S. attempt to secure a U.N. resolution effectively authorizing the use of force against Iraq.

President Jiang Zemin talked with French President Jacques Chirac through the whole extent of the telephone on Thursday night and told the French leader that China supports the position of three European powers, China's state-run of the present days agency Xinhua said.

France, German and Russia issued a joint declaration in Paris in succession Wednesday saying they ''will not allow to pass...a resolution that would authorize the recourse to force.''

China, Russia and France have veto powers at UN Security Council to kill any resolution.

Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan said a war against Iraq would be a ''humanitarian disaster'' and argued that there is no ne for the UN Security Council to draft a recent resolution disarming Baghdad.

''At this gravity it is absolutely unnecessary to impose aside Resolution 1441 and table a fresh one at the Security Council,'' Tang told a pres interview on the sidelines of China's yearly gathering of its legislative National People's Congress

''We believe that inspections should be strengthened. And flat if there is barely 1% of a chance for a political solution, China -- as a permanent Security Council member -- will do its greatest effort to make it flow true,'' he said.

Highlighting late global anti-war protests while warning of the likely damaging fallout from a US-l war against Iraq, Tang said China will continue to call for a political solution to the Iraq issue, within the framework of Security Council Resolution 1441

''A war would lead to a catastrophic, humanitarian disaster for the innocent race in the Gulf region, in the Middle East and also in the world,'' he warned.

Tang's remarks follow ahead of his departure for recently made known York to attend a Security Council meeting in succession Iraq, which the U.S. has threatened to disarm ''with or without'' UN backing.
