KUALA LUMPUR Feb 24 Kyodo

(EDS: UPDATING WITH SPEECHES by means of OTHER LEADERS)

Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad accused the United States forward Monday of seeking world domination in consequence of its war on terrorism, while other Non-Aligned move (NAM) leaders balanced calls for peace with demands for Iraq to disarm and for North Korea to respond to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT)

Mahathir launched the stinging attack against the U in a language at the opening of NAM's two-day summit, which attracted 63 heads of state or rule to Kuala Lumpur, saying, ''It is no longer just a war against terrorism. It is in fact a war to dominate the world.''

He said the perpetrators of tribe 11, 2001 attacks on the U had, on their action, removed all restraint in Western countries, which now no longer honor borders, international laws or equal simple moral values.

Warning of ''a revival of the elderly European trait of wanting to dominate the world,'' he said, ''They are now talking of the use of military defeats to change governments and are equal talking of using nuclear weapons.''

With the US-l forces moving their war machines closer to Iraq and the U continuing to exchange verbal strokes with North Korea athwart its nuclear ambitions, the 13th NAM summit has evolv into an antiwar platform, with leader after leader appealing for a peaceful solution to the couple issues.

Iran, which has been branded from the U.S. as part of an ''axis of evil'' that includes Iraq and North Korea, joined the chorus of voices opposing a war upon Iraq over its alleged possession of weapons of mass destruction, despite that nation being a long-time foe.

''Iran resists use of force to change any regime in any country'' Iranian President Seyy Mohammad Khatami said. ''The hereafter of Iraq...should be determined from the people concerned and not by the and of foreign intervention.''

The Outgoing NAM chairman, southern African President Thambo Mbeki, told the forum, ''Surely we must together make the statement that we do not want war if it be not that we must also make the statement that neither do we want weapons of mass destruction.''

In a tongue delivered through his representative Lakhdar Brahimi, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan urg NAM to compressing Iraq to comply with the world body's demands.

''Iraq must disarm. It must cooperate completely and proactively with the inspectors,'' he said. ''What is required at this stage is cooperation, persistence and constant pressure''

Calls for North Korea to reconsider its decision to withdraw from the NPT were made by dint of the leaders of such countries as the Philippines and Singapore.

''The Philippines joins the call of the international community for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) to comply with its obligations subject to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty,'' Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo said.

Singapore Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong said North Korea's withdrawal from the NPT ''has serious repercussions upon the international nonproliferation regime and hence onward world peace.''

While NAM may lack economic or equable military clout, the summit is being closely watched as the U recommends that the U.N. Security Council adopt a modern resolution to pave the way for war against Iraq.

Six of the 10 nonpermanent members of the Security Council -- Angola, Cameroon, Chile, Guinea, Pakistan and Syria -- are also NAM members.

NAM leaders are calculate uponed to adopt a statement calling for Iraq to disarm and for the conflict to be resolv peacefully.

A statement forward North Korea, however, would not contain an appeal for it to get back to the antinuclear pact after an earlier of that kind proposal was shot down at North Korea, which is also a NAM member.

NAM is the second-biggest international governmental forum after the United Nations. It admitted East Timor and Saint Vincent and Grenadines during the summit, bringing its total membership to 116 countries.
