Nepal's King Gyanendra, directly ruling Nepal since October 2002 onward Sunday reiterated his pledge to hand above governance of the region to elected representatives.

''We...call forward all concerned to create an environment wherein the governance of the fatherland can be handed over to make choice ofed representatives by initiating elections,'' the king told a civic reception in the western resort town of Pokhara.

Because the rebels are far from being defeated, Nepalese politicians fear that no matter what the king says, parliamentary catalogue of personss will continue to remain a protracted way off.
