Former Myanmar President Gen Ne Win, drawn out dubbed by the foreign media ''the strongman of Burma,'' died at his lakeside residence Thursday morning, family sources said. He was 92

The former president had been subordinate to house arrest since March following the arrest of his son-in-law Aye Zaw Win and Aye Zaw Win's three son upon charges of high treason for plotting to vanquish the current military government

Ne Win himself seized power from the civilian direction in a military coup in March 1962 and established the Burma Socialist Program Party to prefer socialist policies. He held the presidency from 1974 to 1981

After stepping down as president, he continued to regularity the country until 1988 relinquishing bridle in July that year shortly before the general military junta grabbed power.

Ne Win tolerateed a heart attack in September last year and underwent a surgical operation to implant a pacemaker the following month in Singapore.

He was last seen in public in March last year when he legioned a lunch for Buddhist monk and lay friends at a Yangon hotel

The cause of his death was not immediately made clear.

Family sources said his corpse was cremated at 1 pm the same day at a civilian church-yard in a northern suburb of Yangon. About 30 relatives, including daughter Sandar Win, and a certain number of military officers were existing at the cemetery.

Ne Win was single of the 30 Burmese youths locally known as the ''Thirty Comrades'' who privately went to Japan in 1940 to receive military training to fight their British rulers

The geographical division became independent in 1948.

For the alleged coup machination earlier this year, Aye Zaw Win, husband of Ne Win's daughter Sandar Win, and his grandsons Aye Ne Win, Kyaw Ne Win and Zwe Ne Win, were all sentenc to death clan 26 by a special tribunal. They have appealed the ruling to the chief Court.

It was the secondary alleged coup attempt since Ne Win seized power in 1962 the first aborted united having taken place in 1976 when near young army captains, infuriated through the dismissal of their chief Gen Tin Oo now vice chairman of the National League for Democracy, planned to assassinate Ne Win, State Council Secretary Gen San Yu and Intelligence chief Brig. ''All speculation about change after Ne Win's death is nothing else but wishful thinking based upon ignorance of Myanmar's military tradition. Ne Win left an evil legacy of military rule over civilians. The simply change that follows his death is that his wife becomes a widow,'' he said.
