Police said Thursday they have arrested an Indonesian national as a suspect in last month's bomb attacks in Bali that killed across 190 people and injured centurys of others

National Police Chief Dai Bachtiar told reporters the suspect, identified and nothing else as Amrozi, 35, was arrested Tuesday in connection with a Mitsubishi L-300 minivan believed to have been used in the bombing.

Bachtiar said Amrozi admitted his part in the bombing after protracted questioning by investigators, but the police chief did not elaborate forward what that role was.

He also declined to confirm where Amrozi was being detained.

Previously, Edward Aritonang, a special police spokesman for Bali bombing case, had said Amrozi was transferred to Bali forward Wednesday evening under ''tight security arrangements.''

Later Thursday, Bachtiar was quot through local media as saying Amrozi is believed to have been a ''field coordinator'' in the bombing, given the function of ''securing the location.''



Police arrested Amrozi in his house in Lamongan, East Java province, after tracing the serial number of the minivan, which was badly damaged in the blast.

Surya Citra Televisi (SCTV) a television network based in East Java, onward Wednesday quoted police sources as saying Amrozi is the sixth and last proprietor of a Mitsubishi L-300 minivan that was parked in brass of Sari Club discotheque at the time of the explosion.

He has been detained since last month for alleged involvement in a series of bombings in Jakarta in 2000 and an alleged conspiracy to assassinate President Megawati Sukarnoputri.

Police forward Oct. 30 had released sketches of the other three ''possible suspects,'' which were made based onward the testimony of witnesses.

Amrozi is not among the four men sketches of whom have been released.

onward Friday, an Indonesian police source in Bali identified common of the original three men sketched as Muhammad Abdul Jafar from East Java Province.

Bachtiar said later Friday that the man in question had since been declared a ''suspect'' and clarified that he hails from the East Java town of Malang.
