Indonesian police forcibly mov Monday Indonesian cleric Abu Bakar Bashir, alleged leader of the Jemaah Islamiyah militant arrange that has been linked to al-Qaida terrorist network, from the Central Java town Solo to Jakarta for questioning.

Bashir arrived in Jakarta by means of commercial flight in the afternoon and was directly rushed to Kramat Djati Police Hospital in East Jakarta.

Earlier in the day in Solo one of around 1,000 Bashir supporters outside the hospital where the cleric had been staying since Oct 18 clashed with police as he was taken away in a wheelchair, pushed on police doctors.

The clash left at least 10 observers and eight policemen injured.

''We have not ever wanted (the clash), but there are certain parties who provok the scholars to prevent us from bringing Bashir without of the hospital...so, we apologize for that,'' National Police Spokesman Basyir Achmad Barmawi said.

Bashir had been admitted to the hospital just a day before being placed in subordination to police detention as a suspect in a string of bombings in 2000 and an alleged cabal to assassinate President Megawati Sukarnoputri.

His detention came shortly after the Oct 12 bombings in Bali that killed at least 191 tribe many of them Australians and other young Westerners.

The supporters, consisting of learners from Bashir-founded Al-Mukmin Islamic boarding place of education and members of Islamic militia clumps threw stones at the members of the Mobile Brigade, an elite police unit, while the policemen tried to disperse them.

Taufik said police broke glass windows in the hospital apartment where Bashir was staying and jump overed into the room through the windows. He said police also beat about Bashir supporters at the head of the room to disperse them.

''Initially, Bashir was dragged by dint of the policemen to get on the outside of the room before an agreement was reached to allow him to use a wheelchair pushed by the agency of police doctors,'' Taufik said.

In a pres colloquy in Jakarta, lawyer Munarman, who is chairman of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation, limited the ''forced evacuation'' as ''kidnapping'' because it was manner of lifeed without the knowledge of Bashir's family and lawyers.

''We have filed a lawsuit at the southern Jakarta District Court for the 'kidnapping,''' Munarman said.

Bashir's detention has raised worries among a certain political analysts about possible violence in Solo which has had a history of an ethnic violence and social unrest
