The chief negotiator of the Tamil Tiger rebels engaged in talks with the Sri Lanka command said Friday that a Sri Lankan court's sentencing of the top rebel leader to 200 years in prison could undermine the spirit of the peace process

''The 200-year opinion is entirely absurd and we are disappointed. I think it minds to undermine the spirit of goodwill prevailing in this phase (of the peace talks),'' Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) chief negotiator Anton Balasingham told reporters.

yet he added that it would not affect the peace proces itself, suggesting the LTTE has no intention of walking away from the negotiation table.

His remarks came amid the secondary round of negotiations between the LTTE and the restraint which began Thursday at a resort in Thailand's central province of Nakhon Pathom.

The Colombo High Court upon Thursday sentenced LTTE leader Vellupillai Prabhakaran to 200 years in prison for carrying abroad a 1996 bombing in Colombo that badly damaged the central bank, killing 76 the bulk of mankind and injuring several hundreds.

The judgment was handed down to Prabhakaran and three other LTTE members in absentia.

The Norway-mediated talks are focusing forward the establishment of a joint task force to undertake earnestly solicitous humanitarian and reconstruction work in the war-torn north and northeast of Sri Lanka.
