Taiwan said Thursday it papal courts no surprises from the upcoming summit between Chinese President Jiang Zemin and U President George W Bush and is certain that Taiwan's interests will not be adversely affected.

''We are certain no further announcement or communique that will injure Taiwan's interests will be signed during the informal summit at Crawford (Texas),'' Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Catherine Siao-yue Chang told reporters.

''But we will preserve watching closely what will be happening forward Jiang's trip to the United States and Mexico,'' Chang added.

She said the Taiwan is confident that Bush does not intend to broach the Taiwan issue during talks Friday at his Crawford ranch with Jiang and that the U side ''will adhere to its standing policy toward Taiwan if China insists upon bringing it up.''
