The prime minister was thanked from members of parliament and senators at the meeting for his leadership since the Bali crisis, the spokesman told reporters.

A political person released by Newspoll on Tuesday showed Howard's popularity had soared since the Bali bomb with 61% of Australians believing he is the country's better leader, up from 54% in succession Sept. 27.

Meanwhile, travel advice issued at the Foreign Ministry, which has been revised four times since Friday, was upgraded late Monday to include the Philippines following novel bomb explosions there, the ministry Web site said.

''Threats against Australians and Australian interests in the Philippines are high, given possible terrorist action and civil disorder,'' the ministry said, stressing further bomb explosions across the land and in its capital Manila were possible, and that kidnappers had previously targeted foreigners.
