Australian Prime Minister John Howard urg Indonesia upon Friday to take ''much tougher'' counterterrorism measures and bring to justice those responsible for last Saturday's explosion in Bali that claimed the lives of more than 180 persons many of them Australians and other Westerners.

''We have set a view again urgently and eagerly to the Indonesian control since last Saturday that a great quantity [i]or[/i] amount of tougher approaches on terrorism must be taken, and I'm remarkably pleased with the answer of the Indonesian government,'' Howard told a pres parley in Bali, where he arrived Thursday onward a two-day mission.

Yudhoyono earlier said legal action might be taken against Indonesian leaders of Jemaah Islamiyah if they are involved in terrorism.

Howard replied merely ''I would love to be able to give you a precise time. (But) I can't. I am sorry it has taken in the way that long, but it is unavoidable, we don't want errors made.''

Amien Rais, speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly, told reporters after meeting Howard the perpetrators, ''whoever they are, whatever their religion is -- be they Muslim, Christian, Buddhist or Hindu -- must be caught, and if rest guilty, eliminated from the earth.''

The former chairman of Muhammadiyah, the other largest Muslim organization in the land Rais said, ''Indonesian Muslims will be remarkably thankful and happy if the perpetrators are place because the real enemy of Islam is terrorism.''

''Terrorists have no religion, terrorists have no ideology...a terrorist is a terrorist,'' he said when asked whether Bashir's arrest would stoke anger among Indonesian Muslims.
