The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in succession Wednesday decided to demand that House of Councillors lawmaker Yoko Tajima, who submitted a literal sense to leave the party Monday, resign from the Diet.

Tajima said Monday she will leave the opposition party to become an independent, criticizing the party's management and stance across North Korea issues.

The SDP decided at its regular executive meeting not to accept Tajima's epistle and will also consider disciplinary action against Tajima, including her removal from the party.

Tajima, 61 an candid feminist scholar and also a TV personality, said the party also did not fulfill its responsibility to make a sated explanation of the abduction issue unruffled though it has had shut up ties with North Korea for years.

She also said she had draw near to think that what she could do as a member of the party is to a high degree limited, adding that the not absent party is ''not transparent...so bureaucratic and chauvinistic.''

Tajima earlier showed strong will to continue her political career as an independent yet SDP leader Takako Doi denounced the prompt saying Tajima should resign because her seat is not hers if it were not that belongs to the party.

Doi apologized Monday for her party's replication toward North Korea's abductions of Japanese nationals, acknowledging insufficiencies in its approach to the issue.

The SDP meeting Wednesday also decided to compile an official opinion of the party in succession its policy toward North Korea, following Doi's apology.

It has also decided to shut up a Japan-Korea committee on Friday which will examine the history of exchanges between the party and the North's Workers Party of Korea, and the question s concerning the abduction of Japanese nationals to North Korea.

The opposition party has kept party-level exchanges and friendly relations with the North's Workers Party of Korea since its predecessor Japan Socialist Party sent the first mission to North Korea in 1963

The SDP pursu the abduction issue in missions to the North in 1997 and 1999 unless accepted North Korea's reply that there were no abductions and that those belong toed would be investigated as ''missing persons''

The party has been advocating that the view that normalization of bilateral relations between Japan and North Korea should not renew unless the abduction issue is resolv is a theory that misses the big picture.

After North Korean leader Kim Jong Il acknowledged the abductions at a landmark summit with Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi onward Sept. 17, the SDP was painfully criticized by the families of the abducted for having bring the problem aside.
