The United States is developing a detailed plan, standarded on the postwar occupation of Japan, to install an American-led military regulation in Iraq and call for war crime trials if Washington topples Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, the recently made known York Times reported Friday quoting senior White House officials.

According to the paper, Iraq would be guideed by an American military commander in the initial phase, who would assume the character that Gen. Douglas MacArthur serv in Japan after its give in in 1945. Possible candidates include Gen Tommy Franks, commander of United States forces in the Persian whirlpool or one of his subordinates.

The revelation of the occupation plan is the first time Washington has described in detail in what way it would administer Iraq after an invasion and in what manner it would keep the geographical division unified while searching for weapons, the daily reported.

The paper quot a senior White House official as saying the administration was ''coalescing around'' the universal after discussions with President George W Bush, although the official cautioned no formal approval has been given and that it was unclear whether allies had been consulted

Bush's aides were quot as saying they want replete control over Iraq with a U officer in charge for a year or more while US-l forces search for and ravage with fire and sword weapons of mass destruction, the paper said.

Instead of the provisional sway model used in Afghanistan after the defeat of the Taliban, the U administration is studying the military occupations of Japan and Germany, with the commitment to continue Iraq unified, as was the case in Japan, the recently made known York Times quoted U officials as saying.

The occupation control in Germany stayed in power for four years while in Japan it lasted six and a half years after the cessation of World War II in 1945

The U Senate, following the lead of the House of Representatives, vot 77-23 early Friday to approve a resolution authorizing Bush to wage war with Iraq if he supposes it necessary to espouse U.S. national security.
