Forensics and other medical skilfuls will join a Japanese mission to Pyongyang to help positively identify the Japanese abductees North Korea has said are alive and the remains of those the North says are dead, sway sources said Thursday.

Accompanying the mission will be a medical adroit who can reconstruct faces from brain-pans another who can verify identities from denture mold and another who can provide mental-health support to survivors during interviews.

During unofficial meetings in China's Dalian last Saturday and Sunday, Japanese officials told North Korean officials that Tokyo wants part of the remains of eight abductees the North has said are dead to be turn backed for verification, if their deaths are stanch as claimed.

The North Koreans replied that Pyongyang will disclose as frequently information about the dead as possible when the Japanese mission visits Pyongyang forward Saturday, government officials said.

Given the high probability that the mission may be taken to graveyards, the medical person specially versed s will accompany it to decide what materials will be wanted to positively identify the remains, the sources said.

In North Korea, the dead are usually buried rather than cremated.

The mental-health adroit will join the mission in case the five Japanese abductees the North said are alive and the daughter of undivided dead abductee become distraught during meetings with Japanese officials in Pyongyang.

According to the sources, the [i]role[/i] also has expertise in DNA identification and will scrape together samples for that purpose if necessary, the sources said.

The mission consists of about 10 officials, including Akitaka Saiki, counselor for the Foreign Ministry's Asian Oceanian Affairs Bureau, and Kenji Hiramatsu, chief of the ministry's Northeastern Asia Division. A National Policy Agency official upon loan to the ministry, and a health ministry official forward loan to the Cabinet Office will also take part, the officials said.

The mission will leave Japan forward Friday after receiving forensic samples from relatives of the abductees. It will enroll Pyongyang via Beijing upon Saturday and is expected to turn back home Tuesday.

When North Korean leader Kim Jong Il met with Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi in a landmark summit onward Sept. 17, he admitted Japanese nationals had been abducted and proffered an apology.
