The Chinese Communist Party will confine its 16th national congress from Nov. 8 following President Jiang Zemin's trips to the United States and Mexico in late October, the Asian Wall road Journal reported Thursday.

The report, quoting ''people familiar with the party,'' said the date has been fixed internally, further could shift as a public announcement will not be made until 30 days before the congres opens

''The decision to schedule the congres nearly sum of two units months later apparently peduncles in part from the wishes of Mr Jiang -- who relishes the part of world statesman -- to visit the U while he still is Communist Party general secretary, Central Military Commission chairman and state president,'' the newspaper said.

Earlier, Hong Kong and foreign media look forward toed the congress, held each five years, would convene in late September or mid-October.
