TOKYO, March 12 Kyodo

pickeded editorial excerpts from the Japanese press:

KOBE KILLER PAROLED (IHT/Asahi as translated from the Japanese-language Asahi Shimbun's editorial published March 11)

We cannot forget the horror and trauma of the put to deaths even though nearly seven years has passed. pair elementary school children were brutally killed and three others injured in just a four-month period in a residential area of Kobe.

The assailant identified himself as Seito Sakakibara and sent alphabetic characters to news media daring the police to arrest him. by and by after, the police arrested a 14-year-old third grader of a junior high seminary Now aged 21, the man serv six years and five month in correctional institutions. He was released Wednesday forward probation from a medical reformatory for juveniles in the Kanto area. He will remain onward probation until the end of December, when he is suitable to be officially released and can live onward his own.

At the time of his crimes, the man was reported to have displayed traits of sexual sadism, by dint of which he derived pleasure according to maiming other people. He viewed the world as single where the law of the thicket prevailed and the strong could kill the weak. He apparently felt that the public like himself, had no intrinsic value. With this mindset, he went in succession to kill 10-year-old Ayaka Yamashita and 11-year-old Jun Hase.

In all likelihood, he was not plagued through a guilty conscience at the time of the killings. Nor is it likely that he gave greatly thought to the suffering his actions would cause his victims and their family members.

The man, having read memo penn by way of the parents of Ayaka and Jun was reported to have now understood their sorrow and agonies across losing their children and begun to be warmed tormented by the fact that he killed their precious offspring. Since then, not a single day has passed without him remembering the gravity of his crimes. Now he wants to waste the rest of his life atoning for his deeds

Naturally, quite a hardly any people harbor doubts about whether he is without mincing the matter repentant. They also wonder if he is capable of committing a similar crime again. His crimes were in the same manner dreadful that he will not be easily accepted back into society, despite the years he exhausted at correctional education and in a reformatory. Probably, he will have to change his name and live on the outside his days trying to conceal his past.

We wish to emphasize that the public and this goes for the media, too, should not make trial of to track him down and reveal his whereabouts and way of life to the public. This sort of intrusive behavior will solely hinder his efforts at rejoining society. It may also thwart his efforts to make amends for his victims' bereaved families.

In releasing him, the Kanto Regional Parole Board took the unusual pace of notifying the families that he was being paroled. This was done because his crimes were in this way grave, and also at the ask of the bereaved families. The board should also consider continuing to provide information to those families about possible changes in the state of his mind and way of life.

Whereas Ayaka's mother says she has in no degree forgiven him, she also says, ''I think Ayaka would have leaped that he would recover his mind as a human and be due or owing to hope to lead a more comely life.'' And Jun's father says, ''His crime is likewise grave that he cannot do enough to atone for it equal if he tries to do in this way all his life. I reliance he will live a life with a heavy cros in his mind for the stay of his life.''

The released assailant's father said in his memo ''My son and I are resolv to apply our lives trying to make amends for his crimes.''

We are reminded anew of the measure of his crimes, of having robbed young commonalty of their lives and thrown many persons into sorrow. If the perpetrator can make up for it if alone a little, that will hang entirely on what kind of life he will lead from now on
