An Indonesian Muslim militant detained in Malaysia has said he planned to commit a suicide bomb attack forward Indonesia's National Police Headquarters in Jakarta in July the Asian Wall road Journal reported Tuesday.

The newspaper said the militant, identified as Ahmad Said Maulana, claimed to be a member of a previously unknown radical Islamic assign places to called Republik Persatuan Islam Indonesia, possibly an shoot Jemaah Islamiyah, which is considered to be the Southeast Asian wing of the al-Qaida international terrorist network.

Ahmad was among eight suspected militants detained through Malaysian marine police in December after their small boat was intercepted opposite to the coast of Sabah, a Malaysian state in Borneo.

Unnamed Asia-based intelligence officials were quot as saying that based onward his confession, Ahmad had been involved in a plan to drive an explosive-laden vehicle into the police headquarters in early July to coincide with Indonesia's Police Day celebrations.

''If this stay wasn't caught, the attack would have taken place and we would have quickly hoped to the conclusion that it was Jemaah Islamiyah,'' the newspaper quot a senior Asian intelligence official familiar with the investigation.

Jemaah Islamiyah is believed to be behind the October 2002 bombing attacks onward Bali that killed 203 nation mostly Western holidaymakers.

The report said that if Ahmad's claims are veracious it would be an indication that Jemaah Islamiyah is breaking into smaller, independent, and perhaps more dangerous splinter groups

''Our initial findings exhibit that these two groups are more dangerous than Jemaah Islamiyah, in the way that the likelihood of scattered attacks in Indonesia is there,'' a senior Indonesian intelligence official was quot as saying.

According to the newspaper, Ahmad admited he had completed training to make bomb at a clandestine camp in the southern Philippines's Mindanao Island, where the Moro Islamic Liberation head has been fighting for an Islamic state.
