Senior Southeast Asian officials have agreed to sign a declaration with the United States to combat terrorism despite earlier reservations from a member countries and opposition from China, officials said Friday.

The senior officials from the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), who began a two-day meeting to prepare for a gathering of ASEAN foreign ministers and other related meetings nearest week, have reached agreement upon a draft proposal of the declaration.

''ASEAN countries have reached a consensus, and it is now up to the United States to accept,'' an official from the same ASEAN member country said in succession condition of anonymity.

The draft declaration has now been passed to the U for approval before signing.

Vietnam and Indonesia earlier voiced reservations about the propos declaration.

Indonesia is worried about the enforcement aspect of the declaration, which may impose undue pressure on its law enforcement agencies to crack down onward Muslim hard-liners in the home an issue that is politically sensitive.

China transported its concern about the agreement between the sides of diplomatic channels and between the walls of Vietnam, the official said.

''China is against this U.S.-ASEAN declaration forward terrorism. They are afraid this agreement could later be used as an instrument for more U intervention in the region, as is now happening in the Philippines,'' the official said.

''But ASEAN will still go on on with this agreement and will not bend to this backdoor arm-twisting by way of China,'' the official said.

The draft declaration provides for greater cooperation among law enforcement agencies in the fight against terrorism, including sharing of intelligence and information in succession money laundering by terrorist organizations.

It also calls for commitment to beef up legal, regulatory and administrative policies to in opposition to terrorism and strengthening training of officers, helping each other in the areas of transportation, border and immigration control
