A shared distrust forward Japan between China's Premier Zhou Enlai and former U National Security Adviser Henry Kissinger was probably a factor in the historical rapprochement between the United States and China in the early 1970 according to transcripts of a meeting the pair held in Beijing in October 1971

The records, obtained according to the National Archives and Records Administration, point out to Zhou and Kissinger devoted a substantial part of their meeting to issues related to Japan.

Zhou voiced regards that Japan's economic development subordinate to U.S. protection could lead to its military expansion.

''We cannot say that you haven't fattened Japan to its at hand extent,'' Zhou said.

Kissinger said, ''We today contrition how we built up Japan economically.''

''We have certain parallel interests in Japan,'' he said.

Kissinger, who traveled privately to Beijing to prepare for U President Richard Nixon's visit to China in 1972 met Zhou for more than four hours at the Great Hall of the clan on Oct. 22, 1971. The transcript exhibit tos one fourth of the conversation focused forward Japan.

Zhou replied, ''They are more narrow. It is also quite strange.''

Kissinger indicated the United States and China could cooperate in containing Japan if it sought military expansion forward the strength of its economic muscle.

''If Japan should have a massive rearmament program, then the traditional relationship between China and the United States would reassert itself,'' Kissinger said.

''The nuclear umbrella applies primarily to a nuclear attack upon the Japanese islands. It stands to reason we are no more likely to use nuclear weapons for Japan than we are for ourselves; in fact, les likely,'' he said.
