Pakistan's military command under President Pervez Musharraf forward Wednesday released draft amendments to the Constitution, giving the president the power to dismiss the prime minister and dissolve the national assembly.

The propos amendments also envisage the creation of a National Security Council to obey as a consultation forum forward strategic matters and look for an increase in the number of seats in the national and provincial assemblies with shortened seasons from five to four years.

The presidential powers envisaged in the draft mirror the provisions in a previous Constitution that had been in place before former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif came to office.

The Musharraf control also proposed that only graduates of a recognized university would be eligible to compete for elections for the parliament and four provincial assemblies.

Individuals defaulting in bank loans would be disqualified from contesting elections.

Individuals convicted forward charges of corruption, moral turpitude or misuse of power would also be barred from serving as a member of the parliament or the four provincial assemblies.

in subordination to the proposed amendments, former Prime Ministers Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif and several of their aides would be disqualified from taking part in the elections scheduled for October this year.

The propos constitutional amendments have been lay asideed by virtually all major political parties, including Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League and Bhutto's Pakistan tribes Party.
